Queenstown is surrounded by amazing scenery. With the use of your rental car you can visit two great observation points.

The first is the lookout from the Skippers saddle on the Coronet peak road. For the sake of a 10 minute drive up a very good tar sealed road you can get to this observation point. To look out over the rural area called Dalefield, with these mountains in the distance.

The Remarkable Mountains

Continue up the road to the summit of the Skippers Canyon road. Park your car there and walk down the road for 20 to 30 minutes to take in the top of what is know as "The Long Gully". You don't have to go far to get this view of Mount Arum.

Skippers Canyon

The other scenic drive and walk is a bit more adventurous. Drive up to the Remarkables Ski field. From there you can do the 1.5 return walk up to Lake Alta. The views of the Southern Alps are great. If you have the energy you an continue up to the top of the Shadow basin lift area and take in this view.

Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown.

You can get up here the easy way in winter using the ski lift. Winter colours are really nice and probably better than summer. This walk was more like 3 hours return. You need a walking stick and good foot wear.
