Many of the larger rental car services are located at the Perth International Airport, and service counters are available in the baggage claim area. These include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty. Additionally, rental cars are available throughout the city of Perth. If you’re planning on exploring beyond the city, getting a car is probably a good idea. The rates are reasonable and Perth is generally an easy city to navigate. The biggest thing for American tourists to overcome is that the Australians drive on the left side of the road, and the steering wheel is on the right.

Taxis are also available at the airport, outside the three main terminals. From the airport it is not uncommon for you to be asked to pay the full fare in advance. There is no fee or charge for luggage, but there is a ground transport fee of A$2.00 for trips from the airport. This fee is not charged from the Skippers Aviation or National Jet Systems terminal locations however. Fares from the airport’s terminals to Perth range from about A$26.00 to $34.00, and about A$50.00 to Fremantle and A$66.00 to Joondalup.

In the city center and throughout Northbridge look for designated taxi ranks, and these are the best places to find a cab. But taxis can also be called by phone or even hailed on the street.

Small Charter Vehicles (similar to Private Taxis) are available on a Pre Booked arrangement. While more costly than Taxis these vehicles can be pre booked to meet you at the Airport, or at the end of a night out and is an ideal alternative to waiting in Taxi queues. Sourcing these vehicles is as easy as searching under the term "Limousine" on both Internet and telephone directories.
