The modern Perth International Airport was renovated in 1986, and today is the primary destination for travelers heading to Western Australia. The airport’s history actually dates back to World War II, when the first runways were built for use as an RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) base. Converted after the war to civilian use, the airport, which is located outside the city in nearby Guildford, was known as the Guildford Aerodrome until 1952 when it became the Perth International Airport.
Today the airport has the largest duty free shopping concourse in Australia, and severak fine eating establishments, so you’re not forced to rely on over priced fast food. If you have a layover or need to kill some time there is plenty to do to keep you busy at Perth’s airport. The official Web site provides information on the shops and other establishments that are located in the three main terminals.
Rental car service counters are located in the baggage claim area, and taxicabs and shuttle buses are also available. Transfers from the different terminals run throughout the day from 5am until 5pm on regularly intervals, and every half hour from 6pm until midnight.
