The Oxford
Oxford Street, Leederville

The Oxford is a gorgeous pub in Leederville, with a fantastic menu.  The outdoor setting is lovely, in a covered courtyard with a water wall and rich red cobblestone type paving.   Inside there are plenty of nooks and crannies for drinking and eating, with wooden floorboards and corrogated iron throughout, giving it a really rustic cosy feel.

And just up the road is The Paddo (Paddington Ale House) which is a great spot to watch the footy or rugby.

The "Brizzy" really is a very cool place to hang out. Infact the term "uber pub"sits well. The outdoor area complete with umbrellas, funky plants, water feature and big benches with comfy cushions sets the scene. Walking through the huge glass french doors there are 3 bars, plenty of comfy seating (leather chairs and sofas) and the dinning area, although you can eat anywhere inside or out. The dinning area is basically a collection of large tables not a seperate area. The whole place just flows allowing room for movement.

THE VIBE & CROWD:- The music is modern and never overbearing. It increases with the size of the crowd but you'll find it never drowns out the noise of the happy punters. The age range is 25-55 with everyone relaxed and well behaved. Rarely will you see anyone ejected for being drunk or fighting. Dress in your best smart casual gear, bring a smile, sit back relax and enjoy .

FOOD & STAFF:- The service and staff are probably the best you'll find in Perth and the quality of food would do any restaurant proud. If you want a proper meal, the menu has plenty of choice without being confusing:- the steak is thick and juicey, the fries crisp & never greasey and the salmon has never dissapointed. The salads are also very nice. Leave room for dessert:- the spanish doughnuts will leave you wanting to come back again... If you just want a snack then have a go at the homemade sausage rolls!! (4star service - 4star food).

DRINKS:- As you would expect from a funky joint like this their is plenty of choice. Countless choices of beer on tap, cocktails and wine. The "house wine" Brisbane Hotels own label is actually made by a winery in Denmark WA called West Cape Howe and represents really good value for money. Fancy a cocktail?? Not a problem. The Brizzy is home to a number of top class cocktail makers- several of them win awards. Even on Sunday afternoons- the busiest time they have dedicated staff that do noting but make cocktails meaning you only ever have to wait a max of 10mins for yours. The dedicated barrista also makes getting a good coffee easy.

The other fantastic thing about this place is that if their is a group of you,, large or small you can "book" an area on sunday afternoons. (The sunday session is by far and away the Brizzy's busiest time). That means you and your friends will not struggle to find a place for you all to hang out together.

The Brizzy really sets a high standard that even the most jaded of peaple will find refreshing.

The Subi (sue-bee) as its know to locals is a great pub that is far more than just a place for a drink. Set in the heart of trendy Subiaco this is a very funky place that changes with the time of day.

Dining: The dining area is split into 3 sections. The veranda, inside and inner courtyard (which at night becomes an outside bar). Serving b'fast lunch and dinner this is a great place for a meal and is always busy from Firday-Sunday. The fare is more restaurant style than pub and is regularly a finalist in the "Gold Plate Awards"  It is a popular place for breakfast/brunch on weekends, serving everything from a healthy bananna smoothie and muffin to a big fry up. Also on the menu are a few interesting dishes such as Morrocan brick pastry with spinach and feta, or the cous cous with poached egg and hollandaise sauce (both of which are very nice). Portions are generous and prices reasonable. Being a pub it also means if you feel like a cocktail, beer or champers thats not a problem. However if you like a hot chocolate this is the place. Ask for it with extra chocolate- the thick sauce at the bottom of the cup is silky and not too sweet.

The decor is regularly changed so it never feels tired. It doesn't have air con although big fans are placed around the dinning area it can get warm.

Service is fine and staff are friendly.

Bars: The front bar has a large section of beers on tap as well as the imported bottled beers, plasma tvs showing sport and a few pool tables, and the cocktail bar is very very funky. Friday and Saturday nights here are a must if you want to party, but be warned this is no place to be seen wearing anything but your finest. At night the crowd here is a young, savy and very well put together.

Sundays see's the subi a far more relaxed place to hang out. Book lunch here and then sit back and enjoy some great live jazz to help ease you into a nice relaxing  sunday session.

Whether your off to a show at the theatre, out shopping, after a decent feed or looking for the action the Subi is far more than just a pub. Its cool, hip and happening but rarely pretentious or empty.

A word of warning though:- if there is sport or a concert at Subiaco Oval and you want a drink before or after get there early or you could spend your time standing in the doorway wondering how eveyone else is getting served.
