Ok, so you're in Melbourne and it's 10:00pm and you need a panadeine for that overdose of clean air from the place!
Well, it's not that bad so here are some quick tips on accessing things in Melbourne at all hours!
food at 1:00am
Plenty of places - in the city, Stalactities runs 24/7, Supper Inn (Cantonese) on Celestial Ave, is open untill 2:30am, Mc Donalds runs 24/7 in some of its restaurants, Crown Casino has dining at any hour...
A toothbrush at 2:00am
Ok, so you've got back to your apartment/hotel/residence and your breath smells of garlic from the gourmet dining just hours ago. There's a meeting at 9:00am and your hotel doesnt sell ammenities. Toothbrushes are easily obtained at a 7-11 or other convenience stores scattered around the city. You can also pick up toothpaste, mouthwash etc However if you need more than that you can always head on over to one of two supermarket chains open till the wee hours of the morning - see "I need containers to carry some great food from the cakeshop at 10:00pm"
A new suitcase and some shirts/blouse, sleepwear and some jocks/panties - hmmm, maybe an iron for my clothes too
Who knew Melbourne has a 24 hour department store? Ok, so it's not in the city centre but if you're really desperate, there is a K-mart department store in Burwood - about 25 minutes from the city.
A memory card for my camera at 3:00am
Memory cards and more can be found at K-Mart Burwood, open 24/7 and some convenience stores have memory cards for sale.
I've just had a doctor visit me and I now need to obtain prescription medicine, where do I get this at 9:00pm
Carlton is probably the closest suburb to the city and there is a Chemist who is open till around 10:00pm at night in Lygon Court.
I need containers to carry some great food from the cakeshop at 10:00pm
Woolworths and Coles are open in the city selling all sorts of groceries until 12:00am (midnight) so if you want not only cake tins but also Tim Tams you can visit Woolworths or Coles (the one at the corner of Flinders St and Elizabeth St is open 24/7)

Junior has just swallowed some ink from my pen - where is the hospital?

Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are located allover the city and so long as you have a Visa, Mastercard or debit card you can make a cash advance withdrawal. Alternatively, if you are in a hotel with 24 hour concierge service, they often exchange money at the counter. Ok, the exchange rate isn't so good but you needed the money at 1:00am so you've got it!
