If you are in Jerez, haven't got a load of money, or you are just fed up of feeling that you may be being ripped off, well I have some great news for you!. You can eat well and cheap in this town, you only need to know where to look.
La Posada de Maria is on the little non-pedestrian street that drives into Calle Francos, in the old part of town. Now, they do only open from Monday to Saturday lunch time, and you will feel that you just walked into somebody's living room, infact it will feel like you just walked into Maria's living room. So she (the short chubby lady is Maria) will walk up to you and pretty much tell you what you will be eating, if you do what she tells you you will get it right most of the time as she does tend to recomend the best dishes of the day.
You can expect to eat a full lunch, with two courses and dessert plus drinks and coffee for a maximum of 10 Euros per head. Not bad, huh?
La Bodeguita de Baco is Calle Las Escuelas, near Calle Porvera, there you will also eat home made cooking, the lady working there is also very friendly, and though the walls are covered in damp patches and it doesn't look anything extraordinery, they do have some amazing croquetes, "Carrillada", and even the calamary fried rings (Choco Frito) is very nice. I strongly recomend that you pick a few dishes of each and just have everyone share everything that's on the table, that way everybody gets to try every dish on the menu. Again, here you can expect to spend about 10 euros a head, or even less. Drinks here are very cheap, so it's also a good place to start on a night out, with Rum & Coke at 3 Euros, and glasses of wine at 1 Euro!.
