Situated in Paphos Town , a short bus ride from the harbour area, this museum is a hidden gem.

Paphos is one of the first places in Cyprus that received Christianity and one of the oldest bishoprics of the island.

The museum contains more than a hundred Icons including the oldest preserved Icon in Cyprus, the Icon of Saint Marina, dated to the 7th or 8th century. The other Icons are mainly from the 12th to 19th century.

There are some interesting wall paintings salvaged from ruined churches. The murals from the Byzantine church of Saint Theodoros at Choulou, dated to around 1100 and another fragment from the church of the disappeared momastery of Chrysolakourna near Steni dated to the 16th century.

There are also wood carvings, metal art works, vestments ,embroideries and manuscripts.

On the south side there is a pleasant garden to enjoy the Cyprus sun.

Well worth a visit and just a short walk from the market area or the main bus station in Paphos town.
