Tampere Film Festival

Oldest and largest short film festival in Northern Europe. Each year the festival gathers short film lovers to Tampere for five days to celebrate the world of short films. International and Finnish competition give the audience a chance to see the best of the new short films. Thematic special programmes include a wide variety of different screenings: animations, treasures of film archives, music documentaries, short films from distant countries... The programme is also bursting with related activities, such as seminars, discussions, exhibitions and parties. Pispalan Sottiisi

Every other year, throughout June, this biennial festival, is a combination of three, all organized by the Finnish Youth Association and the City of Tampere:

  • Pispala Schottische Scheduled in June 2010) - folk music and dancing in the streets
  • Dance Mania (September 2011) - concerts and exhibitions of folk music and dance
  • Folkalandia Cruise (January 2011) - weekend cruise between Turku and Stockholm, this winterfestival of folk dance and music is held on M/S Silja Europa

Tampere Theatre Festival

Held in August this festival offers amateur theatrical performances and professional productions and musicals in area parks and theatres. The Main Programme forms the artistic framework of the Festival and presents the most interesting theatre performances, high-class contemporary drama and breath-taking interpretations from Finland and abroad.
