Travel is best conducted by rented car since Evvia is pretty spread out.
One of the most popular ways to get to Evvia from Athens is via Ferry. Travelers will follow the National Road labeled "Athens- Lamia" to the Arkitsa port (151 km). There is a ferry From Arkitsa to Evia island, specifically to the city of Edipsos. The trip takes about 40 minutes.
It is also possible to use public buses
(K.T.E.L.)
, which leave from the Liosion Str. Station in the center Athens every day at 06:45, 12:45, 14:45 plus some a bit more commonly during the high season months, such as August and September.
Another route to travel to Evvia is by driving from Athens through Halkida which is the capital city of Evia island and located in the center of the island. The route provides travelers with the opportunity to see the Evripos Channel while traveling over an old drawbridge from Drossia on the mainland to Halkida, the capital of Evia. The straits on this channel have a most peculiar tidal current that changes direction every 6 hours, a phenomenon which even Aristotle could not explain in ancient times, nor can modern-day scientists. The ride includes a drive through the forest and seaside. Overall the trip takes about 3 hours. The trip continues through an extremely beautiful combination forest - seaside and it lasts almost 3 hours. At the left side you can see the new modern bridge that connects Central Greece with Evia island.
Public transport consists of passable bus services along the main roads to Kárystos in the southeast, and Loutrá Edhipsoú in the northwest.
