Some of the more popular day trips for visitors to Naxos are excursions to some of its surrounding islands.  Santorini, a beautiful resort island, and Paros, Delos, Mykonos, Ios, Donousa, Iraklia, Koufonisia, and Schinousa--all also very beautiful and full of history--are all just a short ferry ride away from Naxos.  The hardest thing is to decide which ones to visit!  Blue Star Ferries has its schedules for service between these islands and Naxos on its website.  If you are in Naxos and without internet access you can call the Naxos Port Authority for information at 22850-23939 or ask for a schedule at your hotel or any local tourism office. 

The Naxos Tourism Website suggests a day trip to the island of Iraklia for those seeking an authentic experience free from hordes of tourists.  The island is very rustic, without cars, buses, or even a bank.  It is quiet and a great place to spend a day exploring the coast or on a quiet beach.  If you visit, just be sure to take along food and water, as services on the island are limited.
