Heraklion has an active cafe, bar and club scene. Sitting outside in a public area such as a large square and sipping an espresso can be a pleasurable way to spend an afternoon and a good way to mingle with locals and watch passers-by. A popular place to do this in Heraklion is around Eleftherias square, in the northeast quadrant of the city near the post office. Because of their popularity, though, the cafes can be crowded and frantic. Another option is to head to the harbor area, or find a quiet cafe hidden off a side street.

Bars and Clubs

Enough bars can be found within the city walls to satisfy any kind of appetite. Live music including popular music as well as traditional Cretan music and dancing can be found at many bars. Another option is to go to nearby towns and resorts in search of night life.
