Before departing for a vacation in any city… read about it! It’s a good idea to have a general knowledge about a foreign country prior to arriving there so that time is not wasted during the actual vacation trying to determine the best places to see and what to do.
Following are some recommended books about Chania, Crete and Greece:
“Greek Islands,” by Kate Poole is a travel guide contains pictures and descriptions of many attractions and places of interest within the Greek Islands. This book is part of the “Eyewitness Travel Series,” which is a well-respected series of travel books and guides about cities all over the world.
“Crete,” by robin Gauldie is another travel book that talks specifically about Crete and all of its various regions. Anyone traveling to Chania may also be planning a trip to other areas of Crete, so this travel guide is good because it contains information about the entire region.
“Frommer’s Greece,” by John S. Bowman, Sherry Marker, and Rebecca Tobin is a tour guide book that talks about the ways in which tourism to Greece has improved since the 2004 Olympic Games occurred in Athens. This book is unmatched in recommending places to not miss in Greece (and also what should be skipped). It also features “out of the way” places that many tourists don’t know about.
