Lisbon is not part of the very expensive city of Europe but a lot of us are travelling on a budget, here are some tips to help taking the most out of Lisbon without getting broke:
Always remember that Lisbon is a sunny city, enjoying the view is part of what Lisbonners love to do, plus, it’s free! Start buying a good bottle of green wine for a cheap price in any of the small “mercearias” (grocery shops) which you can find around the area of Chiado more specifically in street Calçada do Combro.
After that, ask where the “Miradouro of Bica” is and go there. Sit with your friends and have a drink with one of the most amazing views over Lisbon!
Also for free you have the summer music festival like OUTJAZZ or FESTIVAL AO LARGO. Everyone sits around and listens to amazing music!
OUTJAZZ takes place in different gardens and parks around the city throughout the months of June, July, August and September. You can check the venues and programming at www.ncs.pt.
FESTIVAL AO LARGO is at the Largo of São Carlos near Chiado. You can listen to amazing classical music as well as watch dancing shows.
You can check the agenda at www.festivalaolargo.pt
For some nice fado, visit the area of Mouraria (metro Martim Moniz) and stroll around the streets. You will find small fado places and drinks for small price.
Also in Lisbon you absolutely have to take the time to visit the areas of Alfama and Belém. These are the 2 most amazing places to visit in Lisbon. Young and fun local guides can show you around during 90 min tip-supported Lisbon walking tours.
