If you are travelling to the Algarve in Portugal it is likely that you will pass through Faro Airport. If you arrive early at the airport, and have an hour or two to kill, there is an area of undeveloped pine forest right next to the airport which is great for walking.
From the Faro airport roundabout, take the beach exit (Praia de Faro) and after about half a km on the right hand side is a large forest. You can park the car easily and wander around in the huge wooded area. You won´t see many people here, the odd dog walker but that is about it. If you have more time then you can wander for miles without seeing a person. There are many native birds, the odd lizard, and in the cooler months butterflies are plentiful.
