    • Silves Medieval Fair is on from August 9 - 17th. If you haven't been before then you are missing out on the best free spectacle in the Algarve. It is growing year on year and is fantastic fun for all ages. Just wander about and soak up the atmosphere...go to the jousting tournament ...eat drink and get merry....hire a medieval costume and pretend you're a medieval lady or knight....browse the myriad stalls selling all manner of goods with a middle eastern flavour.  Above all just turn up and enjoy a truly wonderful afternoon or evening out - the later the better as the atmosphere is obviously better once dark. If you are British and have young children forget about bedtime and bring them - summer evenings here are for all ages.
  • September
    • Folklore Festival celebrates the oral traditions of the area.
    • lit.ALGARVE - 1st Algarve International Literature Festival. Between Thursday the 16th and Sunday the 19th of September lovers of all forms of literature can join in with this feast of the written word called lit.ALGARVE. The festival will be held in various languages and throughout the Algarve from Tavira in the east to Aljezur to the west. Visitors will have the opportunity of meeting the authors, taking part in open debates, workshops and short-story marathons, as well as sharing their work in a ‘poetry slam’, where the audience will judge the works by the level of their applause. lit.ALGARVE will also feature concerts, recitals and film viewings, and many hotels and restaurants will hold culinary evenings accompanied by authors reading their works and signing their books.
