Belgium is party to the Schengen Agreement, this provides open borders across certain European nations.

Tourists will generally enter on a 90-day visa, this visa allowing you access to all the signatory nations.

The 15 Schengen countries are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

EU, Swiss, Norwegian and Icelandic nationals are free to enter and exit, work and live in Belgium, without needing a visa.

When entering the country via one of the airports (Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Ostend or Charleroi) or seaports (Zeebrugge, Ostend, Antwerp), you are likely to have to go through customs. Depending on your journey's origin, these checks can be more or less rigid; but in general, procedures are quick and easy.

If you enter the country by road or rail, there are virtually no border & customs checks, often you won't even realise you've crossed the border into Belgium. Any checks that made are as a result of intelligence sharing and are specifically targetted.
