Rotterdam is a dynamic international city on the waterfront, always offering something to see or do. The metropolis is famous all across the globe as one of the world’s biggest ports.
For the museum lover, there are many choices in Rotterdam, ranging from maritime history to architecture and history. Some contain some of the greatest works of art in the world and no trip to Holland would be complete without a visit.
The most prominent museum in Rotterdam is Boijmans van Beuningen, which features art from hundreds of years ago to today. Here you can see some of the great works of the masters, like Rembrandt’s “Titus” and works by Degas, van Gogh and Monet. Also featured, though, are works by modern artists like Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. The museum is open Tuesday through Sundays (closed Mondays) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Wednesdays, admission is free.
Kunsthal Rotterdam is a museum that displays what could be best described as “culture”, highlighting a broad spectrum of art such as photography, design and new and old art. There are 25 exhibits held here a year and all are well received and unique from each other. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday: 11am-5pm.
For maritime history, head for the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam, which houses models, paintings, drawings, photography and nautical charts and other nautical features. All celebrate Rotterdam’s maritime history.
