Perhaps the greatest highlight of this charming authentic Dutch city, the Bavokerk is at least 900 years old and boasts a cobblestone floor whose massive stones are actually the headstones of royalty and famous persons going back to the 1400's. Some sturdy wood furniture is original and still in use since the 1500's. The organ concerts are unbelievably majestic with the deep bass tones of the six-storey organ rumbling smoothly, straight into the ground and shaking the air! Stained glass and ornaments inside the near eight-storey walls add to the already medieval atmosphere. If you want to have an unforgettable experience, find out when the public performances are and attend.
