2 recommendations: you mustn't miss the outdoor ALBERT CUYP MARKET, near the old Heineken brewery. It's open daily, except Sundays from 9-5 but closes early in bad weather or in Winter. There's everything you can imagine for sale; of special note is the fish  - fresh & varied & there's an excellent fish shop in the street itself which sells fried fish & makes rolls & snacks on the spot. Very cheap suitcases, clothes, toiletries, fruit & veg, nuts, watches - stretching down both sides of the whole street. Trams 9, 16 24 & 25 go there & many others. It's in the de Pijp district, very mixed, great variety of restaurants & cultures, antique shops, halal meat, kitchenware; the real Amsterdam for the people who live & work here.

And for a great BAKERY, Vlaamsch Broodhuys, (which means Flemish Breadhouse or bakery) who have 4 shops in Amsterdam; the one I know is at Vijzelstraat 109 (Trams 9,16,24 & 25). A huge variety of delicious, freshly-baked breads, rolls & cakes. Try the wholemeal sourdough. They make rolls & sandwiches, serve fresh coffee & smoothies. Then take a tram to the Market!
