Given the presence of a university in town, and the city's rich cultural history, it should come as no surprise that the events calendar is filled throughout the year in Eindhoven. A few highlights include:

April

Museum Weekend -- free entry to many museums and galleries (national event)

May

International Horse Show -- a huge draw for horse lovers througout the region.

June

Culture Festival Virus -- held on the campus of the University of Eindhoven, this performing arts festival includes music, literature, dance, film, and theatre performances.

Fiesta del Sol and Confetti -- local, regional, and international music acts feature at this annual festival.

August

Reggae Sundance -- it shouldn't come as a shock that reggae performances dominate at the annual Reggae Sundance festival.

September

Freedom Festival -- this event commemorates the liberation of Eindhoven from the Germans during World War II. Music and a torch parade feature at this event.

Every two to three years, Eindhoven is the stage for a Tuna festival. Tunas are traditional musical groups of university students, mainly from Spain, Portugal and South America - but also from 'ciudad de luz' (city of light) Eindhoven. During the Tuna festival, Tuna groups from Spain, Portugal, Mexico - and the Netherlands can be seen and heard! in the city centre and on the market place.

October

Dutch Design Week During the (nine-days) Dutch Design Week about 1500 designers from the Netherlands and abroad show their work at 50 locations in and around Eindhoven. The event - the largest design event in the Netherlands - includes workshops, expositions, product launches, award ceremonies, seminars and design restaurants.
