Orciatico is a quiet and beautiful little hilltop village with breathtaking views about half-way between Florence and Siena, 15 mins from Volterra, 30 mins San Gimignano and a short 40 mins to the coast at Cecina. It makes a great base from which to visit those cities as well as Pisa and Lucca. The village is small and friendly. It has one mini coop, one deli, one bar,  one restaurant, a post office and an ATM machine. What more does one need!  Apartments are available for rental in the area. Unsurprisingly as it is a hilltop village the streets are steep, so those with limited mobility would not find it easy to get around.

Once a year, usually in the month of July, a whole Tuscan village becomes a theatrical parterre, for presenting the Teatro del Silenzio (Theatre of Silence) which honorary chairman is Andrea Bocelli, the tenor born in Lajatico who took the Italian melody in the whole world. Teatro del Silenzio is not a place but an extraordinary one evening event, taking place in a village which design is so harmonious that it seems a theatre. The event each year features many well-known artists, authors, critics  and musicians, who perform together with Andrea Bocelli.
