Alghero's nightlife thrives more in the summer months than anytime else but does not draw tourism simply for this aspect. Although there are numerous waterfront bars that offer great cocktails and sometimes live music during the hot months, crowds never get quite as thick as in other Mediterranean tourist spots. In this respect, Alghero is a great place to relax outdoors or to dine, rather than party the night away.
The old culture still remains strong on this island and you will not see local women or girls, even in pairs or groups, going into bars unaccompanied. In fact, if you go inland, away from the areas more favoured by visitors, you will not even find ladies toilets in the bars.
Probably the most trendy bar in town at the moment, is the newly re-opened "Miques De Murall" (Pieces of Mirror) Mustclub, which is located in the Old Town, just off the sea wall (Bastioni Marco Polo) at via Giuseppe Manno, 14. This bar, which opens daily from 6pm - 2am, is very well presented, has loads of comfortable seating, room to dance, has non-stop music, a huge selection of bar snacks and the very best cocktails in town, made by the very gifted and Tin-Tin lookalike, Angelino. This guy really knows his business; watching him mix a cocktail is a show in itself. If you are unsure of what cocktail to have, let him know your mood & he will create one for you - his latest is the very delicious and soothing "L'uomo Vecchio."
There is one late-night-out haven however, for those who need it. Just outside downtown Alghero, Ruscello Disco is a large discotheque throwing late night parties with DJs and dancers. The dance floor has is open to the night air above so as to not let you forget you're at the Mediterranean.
Baronda Bar at Piazza della Misericordia is more on the trendy side when it comes to bars and is a place to catch music.
The Poco Loco (a little bit Crazy) on Via Gramsci also has live music, (Jazz jam sessions all week, Pop on Friday & Saturdays). This is a very popular pizzeria during the week; attracting the younger age group (20s & 30s). On Friday & Saturday evenings, the bar is the most popular attraction and it can become very busy. Calabona Hotel has a lounge overlooking a pool and often times features entertainment. Cafe Diva at Piazza Municipio is a local favorite coffee house.
If you happen to be in town in mid-August, make sure to check in on the 15th for of their firework festival followed by a fish-fry in the city; this is one of the most happening nights in Alghero.
