Campo San Barnaba is a beautiful, tiny square in the district of Dorsoduro, not far from the bigger Campo Santa Margherita. The atmosphere you can breathe in this place is unique, sitting in a café and enjoying a cappuccino in the morning or a spritz in the afternoon.\
This square is very famous in the cinema: it's the location of many movies, starting from "Summertime", a romantic movie from the 50's starring Katharine Hepburn.
It's also the place where Indiana Jones sneaks out of the sewers after finding the secret catacombs in "Indiana Jones and the last crusade". The church on one of the sides is the library in which Indy finds the path to the catacombs. Also in the movie Professor Schneider and Indy walk towards the little bridge called
"ponte dei pugni" and then back from there from the same side. This small bridge (whose name translated is "bridge of punches) is on
the right side of the square, with the church behind you; there are
four footprints in the four corners. This was the setting for duels in
Venice in the past. People had to stand on one of the corners and fight
at the signal. The first to fall in the canal was the loser.
The museum there has hosted an exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci's Machines for a long time.
On the other side of the square is a "sotoportego", which leads to anoher movie-location, this time for "007 Casino Royale". On the corner of the church is one of the loveliest cafés in Venice, the very ancient "Caffé Degli Artisti". Try a spritz or a bellini there, you will be delighted.
