There are plenty of sports and activities available in Lake Como to keep all of its visitors thoroughly entertained.

Seeing that Como is a town situated on a beautiful lake, many of the area’s activities are based around the water.

A great way to explore the lake and do some sight seeing is to take a ride on a boat or ferry.   There are two options for getting on a boat.   The first is to rent a boat, and the second is to take a chartered boat ride.   Boat rentals are available in the area; It's suggested a rental company in Menaggio: AC BOAT ( - +39 3459010694)  that offers wonderful 40 Hp "open motorboats" to drive by yourself, without license. AC BOAT, at request and with a small surcharge, offer also a delivery service in Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo and Cadenabbia-Griante. The best place to obtain general information about boating on Lake Como is from  The Lake Navigation Company  Gestione Navigazione Laghi).   Click on the English flag at the top right corner for an English translation. You can alsocontact their office in Como.   Their phone number is 024676101.

Another way of  enjoying the lake is from the best possible place ... the lake itself. In Pescallo di Bellagio, offers local expert assistance for Kayak Tours and Rentings along Bellagio peninsula coast, Varenna lake crossing and Villa Balbianello tour.

The hills out of Como are truly breathtaking, and are worth spending at least a day to explore.   The Brunate Funicular Railway has daily departures leaving Como.   This train passes through some the areas most scenic vistas, so make sure to bring a camera.   The company can be reached at 39-031-303-608.

The beautiful woodlands of Parco Pineta di Appiano e Tradate are just 25 mins by car from the lake. Seeing the woods on horseback is a wonderful relaxing experience. While most of the birdlife in Italy has been decimated by the hunters in years gone by, here in the park you can still see some very beautiful species. Horseriding in english or western style can be organised in Limido Comasco at Ranch Selorn +39 335 240438 Italian, English and French speaking guides. Selection of "serious" rides or fun hack and picnic lunch stopover at La Tarantola a great restaurant that is actually insdie the Park. Fantastic gastronomic fusion food and an extensive wine list. A stopover at St. Bartolomeo, a very pretty hamlet and church that has been rennovated with a neighbouring thoroughbred breeding farm, a pleasure in the spring to see the mares and their foals in the big paddock in front of the church.
