Located in Northern Italy, Bologna does see four seasons. Summers are hot with averages in the 80s. Winters get cold but rarely go below freezing. Packing a hat, scarf, and gloves is still recommended.
Traveling to Bologna at any time of year works well for tourists. Spring and summer are filled with festivals, fall is slightly calmer and has beautiful weather, and winter sees an influx for Christmas and New Year's, followed by a down-season--which means cheaper rates!

Right before lent, is the festival of all festivals, Carneval! Grab your mask and take part in the celebration. Another cultural celebration many make sure not to miss is the Grandi Interpreti which is a running concert series from April through June. The sheer length of this celebration gives note to the city's spirit! The Bologna Festival is another music festival focusing solely on classical music and runs from May through June. For jazz, check out Sintonia d'Assoli from May through July.
It's not all just about music though, film buffs can unite at the film festival, Cinema Ritrovato. Festival or not, hot or cold however, there really isn't a dull day in Bologna.
