Pompeii: (The ancient Roman city engulfed by the eruption of Vesuvius) An easy day trip only about 20 minutes away, easiest route is via the Circumventia trains which run about every half hour both ways & the entrance to the ecological site is only about 150 yards away from the train station, costs just under 4 Euros for a return. The site is absolutely vast, so you can spend anything from 2 hours to a whole day there! Entrance is about 11 Euros per person & this includes a free map & guide book, for around 7 Euros you can also hire a talking guide, but you will need to leave ID & some security to take a hand set! If you look on the back of the free map there is a choice of tours with an average length stated to suit your time scale! There is on site eating/refreshment facilities. You can also combine Pompeii with.....................

Herculaneum: (Another Roman archaeological site) A smaller but better preserved site than Pompeii, with less people & more of a complete feel, well worth a visit, reserve about 2-3 hours for best effect! Costs the same as Pompeii at 11 Euros per person or you can buy a combined 3 day pass to the sites for about 20 Euros per head. It is a few stations on from the Pompeii Scavi stop (at Ercolano) & few hundred yards down a steep hill near the sea, it can easily be combined with.............

Vesuvius: (The famous Volcano, still active!) A trip from the Ercolano  station takes about 20 mintues plus another 20 minutes to walk to the peak, entrance is about 6 euros with transfers between 8 & 10 euros per person. Allow about 2 hours in total, so you can combine this well with the Herculaneum.

Oplontis: (Villa of Poppea--Pompeii suburb) Just a train stop up from Pompeii, one of the finest examples of suburban Pompeii villas, this one attributed to the wife of Nero.  Amazing architectural features, frescos, 61 M swimming pool and amphora.  Only 5.50 Euros, but included among the sites to visit with the 20 Euro 3-day pass.

Amalfi Coast tour: (stunning scenery with quaint Italian villages clinging to sheer cliffs right by the sea) Via either coach, private (or hire) car or boat, you can take a gentle journey along the scenic Amalfi coast.

Ferry/boat trips: From the main ferry terminal you can take an ferry to the island of Capri, Ischia, down the coast to Positano or up to Naples (perhaps for the Museum?) all are relatively inexpensive, run regularly & are easy to use.

Private tours: All the above can be booked as either a private tour in your own air conditioned car, or boat charter, there are also plenty of group coach tours combining the above.
