Every week on Tuesdays in Sorrento there is a street market where you can buy all sorts of goods from clothing to jewelry, most of which will be less expensive than in the shops. Know your prices, because bargaining is the name of the game, and the vendors can spot a tourist in the crowd. If you are a wise shopper, chances are you will find some great deals.

The shopping along Via San Cesareo is widely varied, offering everything from handicrafts such as inlaid woodwork and cameos, to clothing and high fashion, to local delicacies such as the popular Limoncello liqueur and sweets. The Piazza Tasso is a main shopping street in Sorrento, with many shops for clothing and accessories. The many small alleys branching from this piazza are home to a multitude of craft sellers and markets. Sorrento is known especially for inlaid wood carvings and boxes as well as cameo jewelry, and these as well as a variety of souvenirs can be found in this area.

But on Wednesday afternoons all the shops are closed, what should one do in this instance?

Head for the beautiful beach side and soak up the Amalfi in all its spleandour. Failing this a timely trip across to Capri would be an ideal option , especially for lunch at Villa San Michele on Ana Capri. Here you will have spectacular view across the Bay to Sorrento. Afterwards you can stroll through the shops and view the prices of jewellry and clothing that you picked up for a bargain the day before at the Sorrento street market.
