The best time to catch fun festivals and events in Amalfi is, of course, the summer. There's a lot to do that gathers crowds of locals, other italians as well as tourists.

  1. Festival of Saint Andrew - this festival takes place from the 25th to the 27th of June and it celebrates Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Amalfi. Saint Andrew is associated with the miracle that saved Amalfi from pirate Barbarossa. There's a great fireworks display and a procession as part of the celebrations. There is another celebration of Saint Andrew on his birthday, November 30.
  2. Bizantine New Year's Eve - The Byzantine empire used a different calendar from the one we use today: a lunar one. Thus, this festival celebrates New Year's Eve in the bizantine traditional manner.
  3. Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics - this rowing competition has a long tradition in Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice. Every year it happens in one of these four ancient maritime powers. This regatta takes place in May and June. This event is known for wonderful recreations of historical costumes and vessels.
