Palma isn't just all fun in the sun...the city offers several museums celebrating the area's history and culture for you to indulge in as well.
Museo de Mallorca -- collections at this museum feature items from the surrounding area, including Talayotic figurines, Arabic ceramics, and Gothic panels. There are three main exhibit halls in the museum, each featuring a different theme, including Islamaic archaelogy, fine arts, and industrial arts. The museum is located at Calle Portella, 5 07001. Museo de Mallorca is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is 2.40 Euro for adults, 1.20 Euro for students with ID, and free for seniors over the age of 65 and children under the age of 18. There is also free admission to all on Saturday and Sunday.
Museo do Arte Espanol Contemporaneo -- this modern art museum includes special exhibitions along with a permanent collection that includes works by Picasso, along with other influential Spanish artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum is located at Calle San Miguel, 11 07002. It is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free to all.
Fundacion Pilar y Joan Miro -- features artwork donated by the Catalonian painter Miro. The museum is located at Calle Joan de Saridakis, 29 07015. The Fundacion Pilar y Joan Miro is open May 16 to September 15, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and September 16 to May 15, Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The museum is open Sundays and public holidays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. all year long. The museum is closed January 1 and December 25. Admission is 4.80 Euro for adults, 2.50 Euro for retirees and students with ID, and free for children under the age of 16. Admission is free to all on Saturdays.
Es Baluard. Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma -- this contemporary art museum includes work by a number of Spanish and western European artists, including Joan Miro, Picasso, Gaughin, and Cezanne. The museum is located at Plaza Porta de Santa Catalina. It is open June 16 to September 30, Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to midnight; October 1 to June 15, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is 6 Euro for adults, 4.50 Euro for seniors over the age of 65, students with ID, and for all on Tuesdays. Admission is free for the unemployed and children under the age of 12.
Palau March Museu -- this museum features open-air courtyards with sculptures from artists such as Rodin, Chillida, and Moore. A library on the grounds includes over 70,000 books, manuscripts, and other printed works. Palau March Museu is located at Calle Palau Reial, 18. It is open April 1 to October 31, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and November 1 to March 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., year-round. Admission is 3.60 Euro for adults, and 2.90 Euro for retirees and students with ID. Admission is free for children under the age of 12.
