Monte Igueldo

Whenever one sees an iconic picture of San Sebastian, taken from an elevated vantage point and displaying the magnificent shell-shaped beach of La Concha, one is looking at a picture of San Sebastian taken from Monte Igueldo. It is a very high hill that is on the west side of Ondarreta Beach. A funicular tram climbs up the mountainside to the top of Monte Igueldo and runs every 15 minutes, from 10 a.m. You can buy one-way or round-trip tickets. It takes only a few minutes to reach the top of the hill, where there is a breathtaking view of the bay and the city. There is a little attraction park and a tower which used to serve as a lighthouse.

To reach the Funicular from the center of town, take bus# 16 from Alameda del Boulevard, 19 ( just a few doors down from the San Sebastian Tourist Office). The bus does not run as frequently as other city buses but you can see the estimated bus arrival time on the electronic display board at the bus stop. If you prefer to take a taxi, the taxi stand is next to the bus stop. The cost is approximately 6 €. The Bus Turistic also stops at the Funicular station.
