Torremolinos was originally named Molinos de la Torre, meaning the "mills of the tower" and is located just 7km west of Málaga airport.

The city was just a simple fishing village until the 1950s and 1960s when it developed into one of the premium tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol .   The extensive coastline and mild climate drew crowds of partygoers who reveled in the nightlife.   All that "fun" gave the city a bad reputation and eventually was responsible for a decline in tourism.

Over the last decade Torremolinos has outgrown it's rowdy image and the fun-loving party crowd has been replaced with a decidedly different demographic of older tourists, families and gay travelers.  The resort area is now famous for clean, sandy beaches and a variety of hotels and restaurants.
