There are many different ways to get around Costa del Sol… by car, by train, by bus, by taxi, by motor scooter, by bike, and by foot.
By Car: Traveling to and from Costa del Sol with a car is usually not a big issue, except when the traffic is heavy. Normally during the height of the tourist season (the summer months), the main roads become packed with cars trying to access the beaches. Primarily, the busiest traffic occurs on Sunday evenings and on national holidays. One can find many rental car companies at Malaga airport and there are four rental car companies at Vialia in Malaga. Vialia is the transportation hub of Malaga.
By Train: Taking a train to see other areas is one of the best, easiest, and cheapest ways to see things outside of Costa del Sol. The train can also be taken to and from the airport. Within the Costa del Sol, there is the Cercanias train that goes from Malaga to Torremolinos and Fuengirola. Between Malaga and Torremolinos, there is a stop at the airport. The main train station in Malaga is at Vialia, which also has the bus terminal.
By Bus: Buses are plentiful in Costa del Sol and can be taken in town and also to other areas in Spain. The main bus terminal in Malaga is at Vialia.
By Taxi: There are usually taxis available to take tourists where they want to go, but there are certain times of day when it’s hard to find one – like late afternoon when everyone is ready to go back to their hotel. During the summer months, it’s also sometimes difficult to find a taxi without a short wait.
By Motor Scooter: A driver’s license is required to rent a motor scooter and so is wearing a helmet. However, this is one of the most widely used forms of transportation in Costa del Sol.
By Bike: Bikes can be rented and most of the streets have a bike lane, but they are not allowed on the main highways. Care should be taken in areas where there is plenty of car traffic.
By Foot: Since it’s really hard to find a parking space in Costa del Sol, many tourists choose to navigate the town on foot. Walking along the beach is usually the most popular route.
