Aachen is home to a few different festivals during the course of the year.  During the Christmas season, the city hosts a number of events collectively known as the Christmas Market.  Attracting visitors from all over Germany and from the neighboring Netherlands and Belgium, the Christmas Market offers stalls selling all types of hand made crafts and traditional food, including the popular potato fritters, in the town's historic center, as well as live entertainment in the form of dancing and music.  The town is decorated with thousands of lights and other decorations for the several weeks it is in session.  The market closes on Christmas Eve just in time for everyone to get home before the big day.  For more information on the Christmas Market or on travel packages, visit the Aachen Tourist Board's website.
