Football, or soccer, is Germany's most popular spectator sport and Stuttgart is home to two teams.  VfB Stuttgart, or "The Reds", is Germany's second most popular team.  The Reds are members of the German Football League and play at the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium, formerly known as the Neckar Stadium.  The Gottlieb-Daimler is an enormous sports venue which holds almost 56,000 people and is often times near capacity during games.  The Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium was also the host of the 2006 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

Stuttgart's other football team, the SV Stuttgarter Kickers, also known as "The Blues", were founded in 1899 and play in the Stuttgart-Degerloch Stadium.  They are members of the German Southern Regional Football League.

For those who would like to participate in sports rather than watching them, or who are aiming to keep in shape, Stuttgart is very fitness friendly, offering many choices to fitness-conscious visitors including jogging, swimming, in-line skating, and various ice sports.  The city also has several health clubs with most hotels offering workout facilities as well.
