As one of the country’s prime tourism spots, Freiburg is full of things to do after dark. As in the rest of Germany, there are plenty of beer gardens throughout the city. Cafes and bars are also common. A few good ones to start with are Café Atlantik at Schwabentorring 7, a rock bar with a middling cocktail selection but frequent music concerts; Greiffenegg Schlößle Beer Garden, built in the old city fort; the Isle of Innisfree on Gerberau, one of the city’s few Irish pubs (the others include The Dubliner at Münsterplatz and O’Kelly at Sedanstr 2); or StuSie Bar at Sundgauallee 36, the most popular gathering place for students from the nearby university. For a swankier place to spend the night, try Cocktail Bar Hemingway in the Hotel Victoria at Eisenbahnstraße 54 or Grace at Humboldtstr 2, a café-bar-restaurant with an English-speaking staff and nice décor.

For nightclubs with more music and dancing, try Waldsee on Waldseestr, which is located a bit out of the downtown area but has good disco events in the evenings. During the afternoon, this place offers a cheap lunch menu and coffee shop goods. Glamour, at Kaiser Joseph Strasse 248, is popular with students for its themed nights and good drinks. On weekens, two floors are open for dances and entry is free before 11pm.
