Located in the northwest part of the Alps, the weather in Chamonix can alter quite a bit in a given day. Located 1035 meters in altitude the sun comes down with strength and sunscreen is needed in all seasons.
There are four distinct seasons in Chamonix . Although in the mountains, there is still an influential airstream coming off the ocean that retains a lot of moisture in the air. Because of this is the great powdery snow in winter but also quite a bit of rainfall in the summer.
Summer is a tourist high season. Visitors flock here to enjoy the fresh air, lush surroundings and warm weather. The temperatures are not hot by any means and range in the 60s but the sun beats down bringing a real feeling of warmth. By the time fall approaches cold weather gets trapped in the valley bringing early cold temperatures and foggy conditions. September also sees a lot of rain so by the time this month rolls around, most tourists have left.
