From Paris, the fastest way to get to Avignon is to take a one-hour flight from Orly Airport to Aeroport Avignon-Caumont. From there, you are just 5 miles from the city, and taxis are available for about $30. There is also Marseille-Provence Airport , about 50 miles southest of Avignon, which receives both international and domestic flights. Several rental car agencies have counters right in the airport terminal as well as adjacent to the TGV station in Avignon.

Another option from Paris is a TGV train from Gare de Lyon, or direct from the TGV station at Charles De Gaulle Airport's Terminal 2 if you are arriving from the USA or Canada.  The TGV from either Paris or De Gaulle takes just less than three hours.  A bus shuttle costing 1.10 Euro runs from Avignon TGV station to the City's downtown post office.  Or, if you’re driving, take A6 south to Lyon, and get A7 south to Avignon.  Coming from London, catch the Eurostar  high-speed train from Waterloo station, which will take about 6 hours.
