Musée des Beaux Arts

    Founded in 1845, La Rochelle's Fine Arts Museum houses paintings ranging in time period from the 16th to the 20th centuries. They are divided among three different collections: the first includes paintings produced between the 16th and 18th centuries; the second section is comprised of paintings from the 19th century; and the third section includes painting from the 20th century. The collection focuses mostly on French painters, but there are also painters from Belgium, Holland and Italy. The most prized paintings include works by Corot, Doré, Fromentin, Signac and Denis. The museum is also frequently host to special exhibitions.

   The Musée des Beaux Arts is located at 28, Rue Gargoulleau. In the summer, from April 1 to September 30, the museum is open in the afternoon from 2 pm to 6 pm every day except Tuesday. The rest of the year, the museum is open from 1:30 pm to 5 pm, except on Tuesdays. Admission is 3.50€ for adults, and free for children under the age of 18 and students. It is also possible to buy a pass to all of La Rochelle's four museums (Fine Arts, Natural History, Museum of the New World, Museum of Art and History) for a combined price of 6.60 €.
