Thanks to its ideal location close to the Pyrenees, Lourdes offers a range of exciting sporting activities like squash (yes, squash), tennis, horseback riding in the mountains, several adventure parks, fishing, and the chance to frolic in public swimming pools. Two favorite activities take advantage of the city’s proximity to nature: walking/hiking and white-water sports.

Walking/Hiking:
Escape into the Pyrenean Piedmont’s landscape and enjoy nature that remains blissfully untouched. Walking paths offer trails of varying difficulty, with a trail that’s right for everyone in your group. Most of the trails are round and start from the villages on the slopes of Bartrès and Adé, the valleys of Batsurguère, Ousse and Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre. You can also walk on ridge paths with the Pyrenees in the background and enjoy what some locals call “rhythmic walks” thanks to the trickle of all the surrounding water: Pau’s Gave, a lake, rivers and more.

White-Water Sports:
There are several venues near Lourdes, including Hautes-Pyrénées Sport Nature (HPSN), the Olympic Canoe-Kayak French Team training ground on Pau’s Gave, between Lourdes and Lestelle-Betharram. Here, you can canoe, kayak, raft, mini-raft, canoe-raft, enjoy something called frenzy, hydrospeed, canyoning, another something called potholing (half-day, day, courses), mountain biking or climbing.
