By car: Travelers will generally find that it is not necessary to rent a car for travel throughout the Isle of Skye, because the other transportation options for the area are sufficient for all internal travel. However, car rental is an option. Travelers should know that there are a number of one-way roads in the Isle of Skye. These are not standard one-way roads where traffic only ones in one direction all the time but rather “single track” roads where passing traffic takes turns going in one direction and then letting drivers from the other direction pass as well.
With the exception of the main routes you will find single track roads are the norm, indeed some major visitor attractions, for example the Tallisker Distillary, can only be reached via a single track road. Passing places are very frequent and these roads are easily navigated but they do add significantly to journey times. Plan accordingly.
By Bus: There is a local bus which is generally considered a convenient means of getting around. Travelers should know, however, that it only runs Monday through Saturday, so alternative options will need to be explored for Sunday adventures.
By Taxi: One option which should be considered for times when the buses are not running or are not convenient is taxi hire. Travelers will find that there are numerous taxi companies located throughout the Isle of Skye to make travel via this method convenient. Walking and bicycling: The Isle of Skye is somewhat sprawled out, but travelers will find that, for some attractions and activities, walking or biking are the way to go. It is relatively easy to rent bicycles. One location for doing so is Fairwinds Bicycle Rental ( http://www.isleofskye.net/fairwinds/c... ).
