The Windermere Steamboat Centre is home to the world’s best collection of steamboats. Here, working models of Victorian and Edwardian vessels are moored in a lakeside setting and displayed in a wet dock. There is also a dry dock featuring touring and racing motorboats. Different models are steamed on different days, and one-hour lake trips are available for an additional fee.

At the World of Beatrix Potter, a video wall describes how the author wrote her 23 renowned stories of Peter Rabbit, Mr. McGregor, and others. It also delves into her role as conservationist and farmer in the Lakeland District. Visit the tearoom for refreshments or the shop to purchase Beatrix Potter merchandise, including everything from plush toys to Wedgewood dishes.

The Aquarium of the Lakes is located on the quayside at the southern end of Windermere. For the best time, take a boat ride over from Windermere, walk through the underwater tunnel that runs along a lake bed, and check out the fish and wildlife exhibits.
