It is often said that all roads lead to Rome, and while that was likely true some 2000 years ago, today it is safe to say that many boats head to Dover. The city is the busiest passenger ferry port in the world, and travelers can get to Dover from numerous points in Northern France, Belgium and Holland. Likewise, the port of Dover is the largest cruise ship port in the British Isles, with many cruise liners from Europe and the North Sea making the city of port of call, along with regular transatlantic cruise liners.

Via air, most visitors from North America will likely travel to one of London’s large airports including Heathrow or Gatwick, although the rather new Kent International Airport is actually the closest airport in the region around Dover.

This former military airbase, which was known RAF Manston became a commercial airport in 1989, but only handles a couple of charter flights a day. From all the major airports there are rental car agencies, along with shuttle bus service to the trains, which offer connections to the city of Dover.
