Dartmouth Castle
This castle stands in a superb waterside location, guarding the entrance to the Dart estuary. Magnificent battlement views and a fascinating history make the Castle the perfect venue for a great day out. For 500 years the Caste was kept in constant preparation for war, and was still in active service during both World Wars. Visitors can see the remains of this small fortress today, explore the 15th century castle, see the completely recreated Victorian gun battery and climb to the battlements for the spectacular views.

The Castle is still lived in by the Courtenay family and is one of England’s best known Stately Homes. The Castle lies in a beautiful setting in an ancient deer park alongside the River Exe and is at the centre of a large traditional estate of about 4000 acres. Powderham has a unique atmosphere, combining beauty, tranquillity and history, which those who visit the Castle will remember for a long time afterwards.
Berry Pomeroy Castle, Near Totnes.On a wooded hill, close to the River Dart in southern Devon, lie the unusual remains of Berry Pomeroy Castle. This site was first occupied by the Pomeroy family during the 11th century. Now a romantic ruin Berry Pomeroy is reputed to be one of the most haunted in the British Isles. It has numerous legends associated with it, and although now only a shell of its former glory, it retains an air of its troubled history.
Totnes CastleTotnes Castle is built in a commanding position on a hill at the intersection of three valleys, overlooking the river Dart. The castle is a classic motte and bailey construction, the original wooded structure replaces with a stone one was common practice, but some of the original earthworks can still be seen. The splendid keep, still standing to full height is one of the best preserved in the country dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries.
