Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world.  Around half the population of the city was born outside of Canada, and immigrants come from a wide variety of countries.  This gives the city such a dynamic personality, being represented by different cultures of the world.  Many people have called Toronto "the World within a City"  because of its multiculturalism.  Toronto offers a splendor of different foods, film, art, and languages, all in one city.

Neighbourhoods such as Greektown, Chinatown, and Little India are known for their ethnic stores and restaurants, and are a great way to explore Toronto as the locals see it.

Summer and fall months are busy with cultural events and festivals.  Live theatre and music are just part of a vibrant performing arts scene.   Culture can also be found year-round in many of the city's museums and galleries.  Sports also plays a big part in Toronto's culture. Arguably, the centre of the hockey World, Toronto has the Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Blue Jays (MLB), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS) and the Toronto Argonauts (CFL) as teams representing its interesting sports history.

Toronto is home to many unique and unusual bookstores, listed on the Shopping page.  It's also the site of many film productions -- Chicago, X-Men, Good Will Hunting, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding are among the movies that have been shot in Toronto .  The city's film office keeps a list of cities Toronto has posed as in the movies, and the local sites used.
