Modern Toronto began in 1793 when a garrison was built on the present site of Fort York.     Open year round for everyone's enjoyment, Fort York offers a remarkable history lesson of Toronto, the former town of York.

It is the site of the Battle of York between the United States & Britain, as well as Canada's largest collection of original War of 1812 buildings.

A new 24,000 square foot Visitor Centre has recently opened at the Fort, making the visitor experience much more accessible and enjoyable.  This long overdue enhancement helps to bring Toronto's history to its people.  The visitor centre can hold special events in addition to its everyday functions.
