Chinatown (97th Street north of 104 Street) is east of downtown and is, of course, the center of Chinese culture, food and shopping in Edmonton.
Downtown Edmonton is the cultural, civic, business, artistic and intellectual center of the city. It can be accessed by all modes of transportation and the indoor pedways at the heart of the downtown area make walking and shopping comfortable and convenient.
Old Strathcona (Whyte [82] Avenue between 99 Street and 109 Street) is Edmonton's historic district. In addition to a collection of buildings built as early as 1912, the area is also full of boutiques and lots of eateries, pubs and shops. Old Strathcona is also the city's theatre district, with a number of year-round theatre facilities and companies, and home to the Edmonton International Fringe Festival each August. Visit on a Saturday and stroll through the farmers' market in the former bus barns on 83 Avenue between Gateway Boulevard and 104 Street.
West End is a very family-oriented area. It is highly residential and home to the West Edmonton Mall. Because many hotels are located here as well, the area is also full of tourists and travelers.
