AeroMéxico airlines specializes in transporting people from over 75 cities in the United States and Canada to about 40 cities in Mexico. For the most direct flight, land in the Puerto Vallarta international airport, from which it is just a half-hour drive north to Nuevo Vallarta. Nearly all the main U.S. “hubs”, including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Orlando, Miami and Houston, have nonstop AeroMexico flights to Puerto Vallarta. There is actually another international airport in the state of Nayarit (where Nuevo Vallarta is located; Puerto Vallarta is in Jalisco) – this is Tepic, the state capital. If you want to take a road trip through Mexico as well as see a lesser-known city before you reach Nuevo Vallarta, this may be the way to go.

Many cruise ships also dock near Nuevo Vallarta. Princess Cruises, Silversea Cruises, Seven Seas, and Royal Caribbean International are among the major cruise lines that offer trips to Puerto Vallarta and other destinations in the Mexican Rivera.  Though cruises depart all along the west coast of the U.S. and Canada, it is especially easy to find cruises leaving from Los Angeles. The main terminus for commercial cruises is in the Marina area, in the northern part of Puerto Vallarta, but from here it is easy to take a bus or taxi up to Nuevo Vallarta.
