There are three forms of public transportation that are available to visitors to the Copper Canyon area, which are buses, trains, and taxis.

Many people who visit Copper Canyon choose to fly into one of its largest two city neighbors: Los Mochis and Chihuahua.  Both of these cities have buses operating through them, which link other areas of the county.  Chihuahua is however much better served in this regard than Los Mochis.  Check out this Mexico National Buses page for more information.

The only option for train travel is The Copper Canyon Express, which operates between Los Mochis and Chihuahua.  The journey provides breathtaking views of Copper Canyon, which is why most tourists take the train.  Local people tent to take the second class train, but the first class train is much more comfortable.

Taxis are available at both Los Mochis and Chihuahua airports for transportation to the city.   Fares in these cities are not metered.   Instead, they are determined by distance traveled.   This is supposed to be standard and based on zones, but this is not always the case.   Make sure to agree on a price before starting a journey.   Because many drivers do not speak English, it is a good idea to take along a map with the desired destination circled.
