The ocean is located quite far away from the city center, but they include some of Mexico’s most beautiful and unspoiled beaches. Bahias de Huatulco, one of the newest resorts in the area, is near some impressive bays and coves, and the resort also offers an excellent golf course and tennis courts for its guests. Zicatela and the beaches around the village of Puerto Escondido have excellent surfing due to their huge waves. All the beaches along the coast in this area are white sand beaches, but two particularly idyllic ones good for sunbathing and relaxing are Puerto Angel and Manzunte. A few places along the coastline have been set aside as natural reserves, including Escobilla (a nesting site for turtles), Mazunte and San Augustinillo. The sunny, tropical weather also makes it easy to enjoy these beaches almost year-round.

There are many cultural activities to partake in around Oaxaca, along with frequent concerts and art exhibitions, but Oaxaca is also surrounded by stretches of great natural beauty that make outdoor activities such as horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking or parasailing easy and fun to do as well. The weather is good most of the year as well, making this an ideal place to play sports.
