Rufino Tamayo was a Oaxacan native, and his former residence houses a collection of native artifacts from a nearby exacavation known as Monte Alban. It is a small but good collection of artifacts.  Some of the ancient gold and silver metal work is stunning in it's design and delicacy, as is the jewel and stone work..

The Museum of the history of Oaxaca and Mexico is an impressive museum and a must-stop for tourists. The very-well-curated exhibits, spread out through various galleries in the beautiful building, have placards in both English and Spanish. The building was recently renovated and charges an entrance fee.
